Students planning to enroll in an AP course during the 2012-13 school year should:
- Check the chart of AP course offerings that is posted in the Guidance Office and on this web page to see the process and deadlines for the course(s) you wish to take.
- If the course requires an application, you may pick one up in the Guidance Office or download it from the Gunn Course Selection Web Page. Complete the Application and turn it back in to the Guidance office by March 5, 2012. (With the exception of English Portfolios which are not due until March 28).
- If the course selection process requires teacher placement, or student selection with portfolio review, see your current teacher in that subject area to discuss your placement.
- If the course selection process is “Student Selection with Prerequisite” the student may select this course during the on-line course selection week but should check the course catalog to make sure that course prerequisites are met.
- Students applying for AP English Literature and Composition, should complete an English portfolio. Since these are due AFTER the on-line course selection procedure, students applying for AP English Lit and Comp should request standard 11-12 English courses during course selection week. Once portfolios are reviewed, students selected for this course will be placed.
- Complete the AP Course Application form (a.k.a. AP Contract), sign the form and have a parent or guardian sign the form. Turn this in to the Guidance office by March 5.
- Students who wish to take AP courses next year must take the STAR test in April and score “Proficient” or “Advanced” on the relevant state standards.
