Counseling Update - June 1st , 2015

Counseling

Dear Gunn Community,

Here is this week's update from the Gunn Counseling Department.

Gunn's 50th Graduation is This Wednesday at 6:00 PM (Everyone)

The big day is nearly here as the graduating ceremony of the 50th graduating class of Henry M. Gunn High School will take place at 6:00 PM on the main athletic field at Gunn.

We encourage people to carpool and to arrive early as parking will be limited and we invite everyone who can, to come and enjoy this festive occasion.

Schedule for Finals (9th, 10th and 11th Grades)

This past week, all seniors took their finals during their regular classes.

Here is the schedule for finals for non seniors. Tuesday, June 2,  periods B, D and Zero; June 3, periods A, C and G and June 4, periods E and F.

Each day finals will begin at 8:30 AM.

Second Semester Grades Available Online on June 9 (All Grades)

The second semester grades will be available online on June 9 by 8:00 PM. A copy of the grades will be mailed home later that week.

2015-2016 Schedules to be Released on August 11 (Current 9th, 10th and 11th Grades)

The 2015-2016 student schedules will be released online on August 11 for the 2015-2016 school year.

Zero Period and G Period Prep (All Grades)

For next school year, Gunn will only be offering zero period for 10th grade PE and the morning broadcast class. Many students took a zero period class this year to have a G prep so it wouldn't impact athletics and other afternoon activities.

Next year, the first priority for G prep goes to Gunn athletes who participate in sports that have afternoon games. All other requests will be reviewed by the counseling department.

Community Service (9th, 10th and 11th Grades)

There are now yellow Community Service Tracking Forms available in the counseling office.

All community service hours must be documented on the yellow form if you want those hours recorded on your transcript.

If you have already started tracking your hours on another system, you need to record those hours on the official yellow sheet.

See the Registrar or Mr. Jacoubowsky if you have any questions.

Summer School Outside of PAUSD (9th, 10th and 11th Grades)

If a student is signing up for a summer class outside of the Palo Alto Unified School District, the student must get that class pre approved by their counselor. Only classes that are pre approved will be eligible to receive credit on a Gunn transcript.

Work Experience Opportunity this Summer (Current 9th, 10th and 11th Grades)

Work Experience and Exploratory Experience are being offered this summer from June 8 to June 11 from 8:00-12:00 noon at Gunn High School.  This is being offered “prior” to the start of summer school, therefore rising 10-12 graders may enroll and still attend summer school.  Unit Shy seniors may also enroll in the class.  Attendance is MANDATORY (no absences can occur) and students may earn up to 5 credits.  Students must have a job or internship prior to start of the class.

Spots are limited and you can signup by clicking the link below.
