This year’s Palo Alto Unified School District summer school schedule is tailored to better fit the shorter summer vacation.
Previously, summer school has run for five weeks with four-hour classes. Now, only math and social studies classes have five-week schedules while other classes have four-week schedules and five-hour long classes.
The four-week program was proposed to compensate for the shorter summer, a result of the new ski week break in February. Math and social studies courses will not use the new schedule because the steering committees for both subject areas feel that the material would be too concentrated in the shorter time period, according to Principal Noreen Likins.
High school summer school will be held at Palo Alto High School. Registration starts April 17.
