It’s no surprise to see a line of people going out to the sidewalk right around lunchtime at Mediterranean Wraps. With a reputation of serving the best Mediterranean food in Palo Alto, this small restaurant is worth checking out for anyone who enjoys falafel, pita, hummus and other traditional dishes.
Located on California Avenue in Palo Alto, Mediterranean Wraps welcomes its customers with friendly service and a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. The walls are decorated with a variety of photos and ethnic music plays in the background, setting up every customer’s visit with a taste of Mediterranean culture as soon as they enter the restaurant. The employees who prepare the food take orders at the counter, and customers pay at the cashier when they pick up their food. The meals are assembled and cooked directly behind the counter, giving customers the treat of seeing their orders being freshly prepared for them.
Mediterranean Wraps’ menu offers a perfect selection of dishes for any appetite a customer might have. More than half of the main dishes are vegetarian, and those with meat offer a choice of lamb and beef (shwarma) or chicken. The Falafel Wrap ($5.75) or Sharwerma Wrap ($6.99) are both perfect choices for anyone going in with a small appetite, but for those who truly want to satisfy their hunger, the Falafel Plate or Sharwerma Plate ($9.45 each) are ideal selections. Side orders of hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh and others are available and definitely worth the additional cost. All the items on the menu are perfectly prepared, served with a nice balance of savory tastes and aromas from the many spices and seasonings the dishes are cooked with.
Mediterranean Wraps sells soft drinks and other beverages as well as a variety of sweet desserts. The baklava ($2.00) is especially delicious and comes filled with either chocolate, pistachios or walnuts. All of the food on the menu at Mediterranean Wraps is also found at Kan Zeman, the restaurant’s sister location on University Avenue in Palo Alto, which is more suitable for people looking for a sit-down, table-service dinner or a meal with large parties.
Although seating is limited and parking can be difficult, Mediterranean Wraps’ reputation could hardly be tainted by these factors. The food is delightful and no one can help leaving the restaurant pleasantly satisfied by their meal and the wonderful service.
