Senior Dance Commissioner Kristen Maher picked the location for prom last March after her election. However, the location for Prom was not revealed until the March 18 assembly.

This year’s Prom will be held in the Galleria of the San Francisco Design Center. The Galleria features a four-story atrium and includes a retractable skylight, which opens to the stars. Along with the Design Center’s colorful design, there are also hundreds of glittering lights and a floor to ceiling theatrical scrim. In addition, balconies surround all three upper levels, and there is a beverage bar on the base floor.

“No one knew about the Prom location except my mother,” Maher said. “Even members of SEC [Student Executive Council] didn’t find out until the assembly.”

The process for finding a location for prom began with looking through the Dance Commissioner binder, compiled by previous Dance Commisioners, for possible locations. Although the San Francisco Design Center was not listed in the suggestions, Maher had always known about the Design Center and her mother had suggested it as a possible location.

The total cost for the location was $5,750, Maher said. “An additional $3,000 was planned for the decorations, but due to the design center already having decorative features, the $3,000 was allocated to entertainment,” Maher said.

Maher apologized for Prom taking place during the week of Passover. “The date for Prom had already long been planned out, and I didn’t really have any choice,” Maher said. “However, additional steps have been taken. croutons for the Caesar salad will be provided separately and the chicken will not be breaded.”

Maher is still keeping some aspects of prom a secret. She noted that there would be a special entertainment surprise at Prom.

Prom is on Friday, April 25 from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
