The Stork Committee, comprised of social studies teacher Deborah Sanderson and librarians Cynthia Easton and Kristi Bowers, recently created a link between those who need baby items and those who would like to donate items by organizing a baby clothing drive in the Library. “Young parents have things that they would give to a good home, but instead they can give them to Gunn staff members that are looking for baby toys, books and clothes,” Sanderson said. “Charity should begin at home.”
On Nov. 2 and Nov. 5, Gunn staff members exchanged toys, books and clothes for children aged 5 years and under. “Baby items don’t get used for very long because kids outgrow them so quickly,” science teacher Angela Merchant said. “It’s fantastic if more than one family can use baby items.”
The Stork Committee gave leftover items to a thrift shop in Santa Clara County affiliated with the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). “It’s nice that the proceeds of the shop stay in the local area to help women who want to go to college and further their education,” Easton, a member of PEO, said.
