Q&A: featuring Student Body President Max Keeler (12)
Published on August 28, 2007 in Volume 44, First Day of School Issue

The Oracle: What’s on the plate for Homecoming?

Max Keeler: At present, we have not decided the theme. Without the theme, we can’t plan much yet. We would of course like to promote school unity, and I’ll be working with Sera Boerger, the Environmental Chair, and the Environmental Club to make a greener Homecoming.

TO: What are your goals this year?

MK: I want to increase student leadership and student involvement, as well as the interaction between student government, the student body, and the administration. I plan on doing this by attending the weekly administration meetings and having more open SEC meetings, among other methods.

TO: Any SEC events coming up people should know about?

MK: Yes, SEC is going to have our first open meeting, Sept . 6 after school in the Student Activities Center. Please come to meet the SEC and voice your opinions about what were going to be doing for homecoming and the rest of the year.

TO: How can students find out about SEC?

MK: I’m hoping to have SEC appear more often on the Early Morning Update and I would like to keep the Facebook group and InClass updated. I am also hoping to publish an SEC newsletter.

TO: What do you think will be the hardest part about being the Student Body president?

MK: Misconceptions from students. A lot of time students think the student government isn’t doing anything, but we are. But this year I am hoping to get student government even more active.

TO: What are you looking forward to most this year?

MK: Homecoming! I’m really excited for it; it’s the favorite week of my life, and it's going to be a great one this year. You will learn the theme at the assembly on Tuesday Sept. 4.

TO: Anything else you would like to tell Gunn?

MK: I hope you guys have a great year, get involved in activities, and if there’s anything you would like to see at Gunn, please come in to talk to student government you can email me (max@vtmedia.com/a>) and you are always invited to sit in on our B period meetings.
