Airbands hype hits campus high

Freshmen

New to Gunn and the concept of airband performances, the freshmen have a lot to work on. However, choreographer Allison Lake has a clear understanding of what needs to be done and how prodigious of a challenge it will be. Meeting twice a week to practice, the freshman maintain high hopes of performing well at the Homecoming rally. Their hard work and perseverance will be revealed when they debut at the night rally.

Sophomores

Although they received fourth place last year, the sophomores have stepped up their competitiveness by being one of the first classes to begin holding practices, in the beginning of September. Last year’s sole choreographer, Ali Maggioncalda, has enlisted the help of over three other sophomores and taken suggestions for music from her peers. “This year instead of just me choreographing, I got four other people to help me,” Maggioncalda said. “We had a three-hour music-listening party and stayed up late.” There is a much larger turn out of dancers this year as well, and the sophomores’ hopes are high.

Juniors

Riding high on their win over the class of 2007 last year, the juniors have been hard at work, hoping to awe the judges once again. Choreographers Molly Kawahata and Leah Rosengaus, both members of the dance team, began brainstorming songs and dance moves early in September. Kawahata’s experience in particular is sure to help the juniors once more. “I learned to dance at my old studio because I’ve been dancing there for 13 years,” Kawahata said.

Seniors

With tensions high from last year’s night rally, the senior class led by Teresa Lee is trying to bring creativity and originality to the night rally. “We are going to try to try to implement more exciting factors and renditions,” Lee said. With fresh new ideas, a lot of practice under their belts, and the knowledge that this will be their last year at Gunn, the seniors will perform in a high tempo airband with a lot of energy and passion.
