Newsbrief: Student excels at chemistry
Published on April 26, 2006 in Volume 42, Issue 6

Science students from around the nation took the Chemistry Olympiad, prepared by the American Chemical Society. The two hour multiple-choice exam made up Round One of the four rounds required to qualify for the International Olympiad held in Korea this year.

Only one student from Gunn, junior George Lu, qualified for the regional Chemistry round.

However, science teacher Heather Mellows is unsure about the outcome of the upcoming round. “Competition at the next level will be very tough. I cannot guess how well he will do but it is quite an honor to make it that far,” Mellows said.
