The Oracle: What is your official position with the Colorado Rockies organization?
Ray Sterling: My title is Assistant Visiting Club House Manager and Umpire's Room Attendant.
TO: What exactly does this role ensue?
RS: I unload and load the visiting team's equipment and lay out the pre-game and post-game spread. I handle over six dozen game balls and bring them to Coors Field. I make sure the umpires' room is ready with gear and up to MLB standards.
TO: How long have you been with the organization?
RS: This is my second year with the Colorado Rockies.
TO: How did your career begin?
RS: Before being promoted to working with the Colorado Rockies, I worked with the team's minor league affiliate–the Modesto Nuts.
TO: What was the highlight of your season?
RS: Watching the Rockies make the playoffs 6.5 games behind first place.
TO: In your opinion, what is the Rockies' biggest challenge in the upcoming week at the World Series?
RS: I think we're hot and ready to go. The weather should be the biggest variable in the outcome of the World Series.
TO: What will be your role next week?
RS: I will be preparing the visiting clubhouse for either Boston or Cleveland and handling the official balls for most games.
TO: Did you participate in athletics at Gunn?
RS: I played football my senior year. I was also the football manager in 1986 and 1988. I was baseball manager in 1988.
TO: What do you look most forward to next week?
RS: I just want to focus on making sure the facilities are ready for the visiting teams. I hope the Rockies continue their streak through the playoffs.
