SEC asks students to tone down freak dancing

It has come to our attention that a large population of Gunn students feel uncomfortable going to our dances because of the lewd and inappropriate styles of dancing. While we understand wanting to be close to your dance partner, emulating sexual maneuvers on the dance floor is unacceptable. Keep in mind this feedback is coming from your student body, not the administration. For the upcoming Homecoming dance, please note that backs at an angle of 45 degrees or lower is prohibited as well as your legs coming off the ground. There will be punishment for not only the rule breakers, but for everyone at the dance in the future. More lights, a change in music and ending dances early have been brought up as possible consequences to the raunchy dancing that was seen at the first dance. Stay PG and know that the need for change is here because we want everyone to enjoy themselves at the dances.

Sports coaches opinion piece makes incorrect accusation

I would like to let you know that I take exception to the article "Sports coaches should be positive role models" in the [June] issue of The Oracle. The article seems to have been written with absolutely no research regarding Gunn athletics. We do in fact hold a partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance, and had seminars for our administrators, parents, athletes and coaches in the last calendar year. Although I do agree with the message of the article, that coaches should be positive role models, I do not think that our athletic program should have been referenced until Ms. Holtzman researched the facts.
