The Fish Bowl is finally open for dining, but within a short distance of Gunn is an array of restaurants to satisfy every palate. From smoothies to sushi, you are bound to find something that suits your fancy.

Jamba Juice

Jamba Juice is a typical stop for students, as it is one of the few shops close enough to the school to walk. Despite the cutback of flavors on the menu, all the classic flavors, like Strawberries Wild and Razzmatazz, are still available. The newer additions like Strawberry Surf Rider are delicious and healthy as well. Jamba also offers other merchandise, including water bottles, shirts and books. Jamba Juice’s baked goods are healthy snacks, but do not always taste fresh. The other drinks that Jamba serves, such as the new line of morning specials, are not as well known as the smoothies but can be equally tasty. Overall, Jamba is definitely a worthwhile place to stop for a refreshing drink.

Baja Fresh

Right next to Jamba Juice is the Mexican restaurant, Baja Fresh. As Jamba supplies the drinks, Baja Fresh supplies the food. It serves a variety of dishes ranging from burritos to fajitas. The black bean, no-meat nachos are a crowd-pleaser, among other items on the menu. Service is prompt and the food always comes out hot and fresh. The food is quite good and always comes with a no-charge complimentary basket of chips. One of Baja’s advantages is that one can pre-order food by calling in, which greatly minimizes the wait in line. New additions to the menu include the Aztec cookie and the churro, which are both under $1. Baja Fresh is a delicious restaurant to eat at, take-out or sit in, and takes a minimal amount of time to serve the food. Call 650-424-8591 to pre-order.

Tofu House

Tofu House serves a wide variety of Korean food, specializing in tofu soup. It is located on El Camino Way near Starbucks and Subway. All meals come with free side dishes of kimchi, bean sprouts, potatoes and pickled radish. The dishes taste authentically Korean; however the quality and the consistency of the dishes is debatable. Often the food arrives sizzling and perfectly cooked while other times the meats inside the tofu soups are hard and difficult to chew. Despite the fluctuations in quality, there is one thing that everyone agrees with: on a cold day, a hot bowl of tofu soup definitely hits the spot.

Fuki Sushi

Fuki Sushi is a Japanese restaurant next to Tofu House. Usually, service is prompt, but if the restaurant is busy you may have to wait. Fuki Sushi’s friendly and comfortable atmosphere make it a great place for an informal, but classy meal. The restaurant offers a wide selection of Japanese cuisine including bentos, udon, tempura and many more East Asian treats. The food typically comes with a side dish of either salad or miso soup. The food is delicious and filling and the sushi is fresh. One downside is that Fuki Sushi is quite pricey. It’s hard to eat for less than 10 dollars, but if you are willing to spend a little extra, Fuki Sushi’s food is definitely worth it.
