This year’s Club Day was held two days earlier than the original date because of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah. “I received calls from Jewish students and their parents thanking us for moving Club Day back,” Students Activities Director Lisa Hall said.
Some club presidents said that they were not affected by Club Day’s earlier date. “I didn’t really mind because personally for me, I turned in club form the day before [Sept 24],” junior president of People for Advancement of Current Events Adam Wang said.
There were 75 clubs recruiting new members at Club Day. In addition to advertising their clubs by tabling at club day, clubs made posters to advertise their clubs beforehand.
While some were genuinely interested in joining a club, others said that they signed up for different reasons. “I know that a lot of people joined to be in the club, but it is possible that people joined just to get the candy.” sophomore Key Club Human Relations Coordinator Matthew Wen said.
Music from different clubs attracted many people, according to sophomore Leo Moley. “Guitar club grabbed [my] attention because they attached their guitars to the amps and started playing,” he said.
Throughout lunch, music played in the quad, while crowds of people gathered to sign up for clubs.
