[News] Palo Alto High School (Paly) students carried out their annual “egg wars” on the outskirts of the Gunn campus Oct. 27, damaging the athletic facilities and parking lot. Members of the Paly Associated Student Body (ASB) stepped forward to issue an apology to the Gunn student body Oct. 28 and Paly has agreed to cover the costs of the damages.—Linda Yu

[Forum] Getting the latest scoop—the scramble for the most luscious and deliciously satisfying morsels of information—is characteristic of tabloids today. However, there is a dark line between this paparazzi mentality of trying to ferret out any potentially publishable information and professional journalism. It is an ethical journalist’s duty to report accurate information from reliable and credible sources, while still respecting the interviewee’s privacy. In the modern day and age however, personal motives have often distorted such moral standards. Though journalism is a business, and competition for the best stories will always exist, journalists must maintain upheld ethics. —Linda Yu

[News] The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) will be facing a $7 million budget shortfall over the course of the next two school years as a result of California’s $24 billion deficit.—Linda Yu

[Features] When students and staff were asked about English teacher Linder Dermon, the compliments were unending and faces lit up with smiles as memories came to mind. Words like “caring, enthusiastic, unselfish, patient and passionate” were repeated without hesitation and the response proved to be unanimous. “I have never met a teacher who cares more about her students, both as people and as students,” English teacher Tim Farrell said. “She forges such wonderful bonds with her students.”—Linda Yu

[News] On April 1, the Parent Teacher Student Association held the Health Fair in the gym in an effort to raise awareness regarding health issues and to allow students to explore various medical fields. —Linda Yu

From March 2 to 6, National Foreign Languages Week was held to celebrate diversity in the Gunn community and emphasize the five main languages offered on campus: Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Mandarin.—Linda Yu
