 Center Features

The A.C. is primarily a drop-in facility where students are welcomed to study, type and print assignments, finish last minute homework, meet study groups, prepare for quizzes and tests, make-up test, become a tutor, get a tutor, and relax and unwond with friend during their prep period, brunch, free period lunch or after-school.

The A.C. is also a place to tutor and get tutoring in a variety of subjects.  If you would like to become a tutor, CLICK HERE.  If you would like to get tutoring in a subject or two, CLICK HERE.

Text Box: jpegThe Academic Center has an entire MAC lab available for student use, 28 Macs in total. The lab may occasionally be closed so it can be used by teachers. The left side of the room has been designated for Academic Use and the right side for Recreational Use.

The Academic Center also has available a large selection of textbooks that may be checked out to students for a very short period of time.  The AC generally has enough copies of each textbook to meet demand, but there are occasional periods when every copy of a textbook title will be out.  This usually occurs during Tutorial and at lunch, or when a specific class and teacher has a test the very next period.

The AC is a place where you can make-up an exam. Come in during operation hours and inform either coordinators the name of the teacher and the class for which you need to make up a test. There is quiet space secluded near the coordinator’s desk for test taking. You will be required to follow instructions the individual teachers give to the coordinators, and you will be held accountable for following Gunn’s Academic Honesty Policies.

Also available in the AC are supplies available for student use, including a stapler, 3-hole puncher, scissors, glue sticks, tape, 3x5 index cards (when in stock), highlighters, pencils, paper clips, crayons, markers, colored pencils, protractor, rulers, graphing calculator, binder paper and graph paper.  Feel free to use these supplies, but make sure you return them back to their proper spot.

Text Box: jpegThe Academic Center has two printers, At this time, the AC does not charge students for their printouts, but please pick up your prints from the printer and do not print pages that you have no intention of using.  Misuse of the printer may lead the AC to start charging for prints, like the Library does.

While students may work together in the A.C., each student is responsible for adhering to Gunn’s Academic Honesty/Integrity policies regarding cheating (including copying homework) and plagiarism.

The Center Mission

The Gunn High School Academic Center is an inclusive and free support center for all students and has a respect for students’ diverse learning styles and cultural/academic backgrounds.

To improve academic performance, the A.C. is both a place and an opportunity for students to receive tutoring, work individually on homework/test studying, and in small groups to collaborate on projects.

The A.C. recruits student tutors and excellent adult community volunteers who have demonstrated competence in various subjects to provide quality tutoring to students requesting support in their academics.
