Get Tutoring

Students may receive tutoring from peer tutors, from community volunteers that tutor at Gunn in the A.C. at no cost, or students may seek tutoring from professional tutors and/or tutoring services. 

The Academic Center has collected a number of private tutors and tutoring services to help students with their academic needs, for a fee.

Tutoring Procedures

• Fill out the “Tutor Request” application and return it to the A.C. or click HERE to fill out the online form.
• Tutors, upon arrival in the AC, are required to grab their tutoring folder located on the Coordinator’s desk.  In the folder is a tracking sheet so the AC can keep track of volunteer hours.  Keep the folder with you during each tutoring session. 
• Please keep on task and remain organized.  Set small goals for each session, such as reviewing homework, prepping for a quiz, or reviewing a specific chapter or section of the text.
• After the session has concluded, fill out the line item on the daily tracking sheet.  Both students are required to initial the form after each session.  Return the tutoring folder.

Expectations of the Tutee

• Be respectful and mindful of the time your tutor is volunteering to help you.
• Keep on task and remain organized.  This is not a time socialize with friends.
• Attend all tutoring sessions and be on time.  If you cannot make the tutoring session, contact your tutor ahead of time through email or telephone. 
• Make sure you have your homework ready for review, the textbook with you (or checked out to you from the AC), and supplies before your tutor arrives.  Also, please have ready any notes you may need, handouts from your teacher, or other printed materials that you want to review with your tutor.
• Your tutor is not there to do your homework for you or to walk with you through every step of every problem.  Try to complete as much of the assignment as possible before you sit down and meet with your tutor. 
• Explain to your tutor the areas that you understand and ask questions about areas that you need help in.
• Thank your tutor after every session.
