ASB ELECTIONS: CAMPAGIN RULES

Campaigning Rules: 2009

  1. You are only allowed to campaign on campus on the following days during the week of elections: April 20th to April 22nd. Online campaigning, including but not limited to the creation of Facebook Groups and Events, may begin at any time.
  2. POSTERS:  You may post one large sign on any wood panel on the World Languages Building (Quad Side), Science Building (near S2) English/World Language department building (L31-Quad Side), parking lot side of Spangenberg, the wall next to the Bike Cages near M2, or the RC/SAC building.
  3. The signs must not exceed a maximum of 6 feet Wide x 7 feet High and cannot be posted until 7:00 AM on Monday, April 20th. Ms. Hall will rip down any signs that are put up before this time. You will be assigned a space by random lottery so there will be no need to spend the night on campus. Do not overlap other signs. The SAO will provide paper and paints for you to use if you so choose.
  4. Candidates shall not put down any other candidate.  Candidates shall not use obscene, racial, or any other controversial materials on posters, flyers, signs or any other campaign materials (this includes any and all online campaigning).
  5. Candidates may only use posters, handouts, the Oracle Election Special and signs to promote themselves on campus. Ms. Hall is the judge of what can and cannot be used.  Everything you make and distribute must be approved before use, display, or duplication.  Use of unapproved promotional formats will result in immediate disqualification.
  6. You may “decorate” yourself as part of your campaign. You may carry a sign on a stick that is no larger than 24" x 24" wide or wear decorated clothing or things that designate YOU are the candidate for your office.  You may decorate yourself beginning Monday, April 20th.
  7. Candidates may not use any type of amplified sound system as part of their personal campaign.
  8. CAMPAIGN SPENDING:  Candidates may spend no more than $70.00 on campaigning supplies and handouts (including signs, posters, self-decorating, and shirts/decorations for supporters).  Any overspending will result in disqualification.  Candidates are expected to keep all receipts of money spent. The cost of items used for campaign that were already owned must also be factored into the candidate's $70.00 total spending. The following handouts are prohibited and will result in disqualification from the election:
      • Food or candy items of any kind
      • Anything with adhesive (including stickers)

VOTING: Elections will take place during science classes on Wednesday April 22nd through Friday April 24th.  The candidate with the most votes will be the winner – there will be no run-off elections!

CLEAN UP and ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS: On Friday after elections, you must clean up all of your campaign materials  - flyers, posters, signs, handouts, etc.  The campus must be cleaned before election results are announced.  Provided that the campus is cleaned to the approval of SEC and Ms. Hall, results will be posted online at the Student Activities Elections Page
