FRESHMAN ORIENTATION 2008

The purpose of Freshmen Orientation is to both help our incoming Freshman class acclimate to their new school culture and have positive affects on change in existing culture relating to stress and academic achievement.  Gunn High School hopes to continue positive growth in their students and help students develop positive images in how they see themselves at Gunn High School.

To meet this mission, Freshman Orientation for 2008 will include the following goals:

  • Learning Gunn Traditions
  • Become Familiar with the campus
  • Getting to know each other and developing a “voice” as a class.
  • Introduction/Overview of how student activities work (ID cards, Homecoming, etc)
  • What it takes to be academically successful at Gunn
  • School Culture
  • Student Stress and how to deal with added responsibilities
  • Social Norms Information
  • Understanding the responsibility of being part of a group
  • How to make good choices/ peer pressure

Once a Freshman has attended Orientation, we hope they will continue their growth in being Gunn students who value honesty, integrity, efficacy, have a love of learning, become real thinkers and be ready to make their mark as Freshmen at Gunn!

Freshman Orientation is a very important part of your child’s development and transition into the High School Environment and we expect every Freshman to attend!
