ASB APPOINTED OFFICER APPLICATION

Appointed Officer Interview Schelule
(Please come to the SAC at the start of B period for your interview. You will be excused from your B period class on that day.)

Let Ms. Hall know ASAP if you cannot make your assigned time in order to be rescheduled.

All Appointed Positions are selected through an interview process. The schedule for interviews will be listed here in May 2010

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL OFFICER POSTIONS:

  • Set up events such as dances and lunchtimes activities
  • Help with school-wide events (Homecoming, International Week, Spring Fling, etc.) by running games, decorating, cleaning up, and any other assigned tasks.
  • Dress up for all dress-up days.
  • Represent their class and the Student Body as a whole
  • Attend class to discuss issues relating to school climate and policy
  • Participate in and complete all class assignments
  • Make posters and help with publicity
  • Work well with your peers and try to improve Gunn
  • Be prepared for weekend and evening commitments as well as times when regular class periods will be missed to assist with SEC responsibilities.
  • Complete an informational binder for incoming elected officers
  • Attend all SEC/ District/ School Committee meetings as assigned.

NOTE:  As a part of his/her responsibilities as an elected representative of the Student Body, all members of the ASB Student Executive Council are required to enroll in the Student Government class (held during B Period in the SAC).  This course has all the same requirements as other classes and will include assignments relating to leadership issues as well as individual roles on SEC, for which participants will receive a grade.  Please ask Ms. Hall if you have additional questions about course requirements.

SPECIFIC OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTIONS (includes but is not limited to tasks listed)

Student Body Secretary

  • Writes SEC blurb for Oracle, Spotlight, and Gunn Connection
  • Takes attendance in class and at all events
  • Takes notes at meetings
  • Makes SEC bulletin board/kiosk

Student Body Treasurer

  • Signs checks
  • Fundraises for student body events
  • Reviews SEC expenses and reports to SEC on budget.
  • Compiles budget for next school year

Publicity Commissioners (2)

  • Organizes meet-the-SEC days
  • Publicize events as creatively as possible (bulletin, posters, marquee, etc.)
  • Communicates with TBN on publicity opportunities
  • Decorate campus for Homecoming/Spring Fling
  • Organize SEC poster making and decoration days
  • Work with Clubs on Publicity guidelines
  • Takes care and inventories all decoration and poster making supplies
  • Will have to publicize an SEC event as part of the application process

Clubs/ Community Service Commissioner

  • Oversees SEC participation in Turkey Feast
  • Runs Charity Week
  • Meets with community service club presidents to facilitate communications and collaborate on events
  • Creates fundraisers, games, and community-related events to get Gunn students involved in their community
  • Helps with Service Day and AIDS Dance.
  • Hosts monthly meetings with all club presidents
  • Assists clubs with understanding and completion of required club forms and fundraising/ event procedures
  • Communicates between clubs and SEC

 

 

 

Environmental Commissioner

  • Organizes and regulates weekly paper recycling program
  • Regularly maintains and empies recylcing center in SEC
  • Brings environmental awareness to student body
  • Attends monthy Green Team Meetings
  • Work with environmental club on Earth Week
  • Works to make school events more enviromentally friendly

Site Council/ PTSA liaison (2-year position: must be entering 11th grade)

  • Attends site council and parent-teacher-student association (PTSA) meetings
  • Acts as the voice of the students at these meetings and seeks funding for SEC activities
  • Represents the site council and PTSA at SEC meetings
  • Comfortable working with parents, teachers and administrators
  • Required enrollment in SEC for Junior Year only

Historian/ Videographer

  • Creates Homecoming Preview Video, Prom Video and other video projects as needed with help of SEC.
  • Films and produces Homecoming DVD
  • Films and Produces all major events throughout the school year for Video Yearbook.
  • Works with SB President and Student Activities Director to ensure quality and appropriateness of video production for the school
  • Must have been previously enrolled or currently enrolled in Video Production or TBN

Visual/ Performing Arts Commissioner

  • Represents the interests of performing and visual arts programs at Gunn, including but not limited to theater, band, orchestra, choir, photography, painting and drawing, and stage tech.
  • Helps to integrate arts into school culture
  • Publicizes arts and works to increase student awareness and attendance at arts events
  • Responsible for organizing Art of the Month and awarding prizes
  • Takes charge of special arts events (performances on the Quad, art shows, displays, etc.)
  • Must be actively involved in the Gunn performing/ visual arts program.
