ASB ELECTED OFFICER POSITIONS

ASB ELECTED OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND DUTIES

(All positions include but are not limited to the following listed responsibilities)

Responsibilities of all members of Student Executive Council (not class council):

NOTE:  As a part of his/her responsibilities as an elected representative of the Student Body, allmembers of the Student Executive Council are required to enroll in the Student Government class (held during B Period in the SAC).  This course has all the same requirements as other classes and will include assignments relating to leadership issues as well as individual roles on SEC, for which participants will receive a grade.  Please ask Ms. Hall if you have additional questions about course requirements.

SPECIFIC POSTION DUTIES:

Student Body President

  • Runs daily classes
  • Acts as chief representative for Gunn High School in and out of school
  • Meets with Ms. Hall after school or during prep time to plan class agenda
  • Plans retreats, focus groups, and other events throughout year
  • Runs all elections (if you have questions about elections ask current SBP)
  • Meets regularly with school Principal
  • Must be a confident public speaker

Student Body Vice-President

  • Stands in for president if he/she is absent (see above)
  • Plans and leads freshman orientation during August
  • Organizes frosh events throughout the fall (tailgate party, boot camp)
  • Guides Freshman Officers in organizing Spring events for class
  • Plans JLS/Terman rally in April to pump up incoming students
  • Chooses future Link Crew leaders

Spirit Commissioner

  • Plans Rallies (including choosing a theme, planning games, finding staff participants, and logistics)
  • Plans/ creates other spirit events on campus.
  • Meets with and is a representative for Cheer and other performance groups on campus.
  • Make sure that the school stays spirited
  • Includes public speaking at rallies
  • Works directly with Sports Commissioner on rallies and other sporting events.

Sports Commissioner

  • Sets up March Madness
  • Publicizes sports and works to improve spirit
  • Works directly with Spirit Commissioner on rallies and other sporting events
  • Oversees organization of 6th Man club
  • Organizes drawings and other fundraisers for sports teams

 

 

 

 

Human Relations Commissioners (2 Positions)

  • Responsible for monthly birthday coupons and birthday cake
  • Organize staff appreciation events/ Staff Appreciation Week with PTSA.
  • Coordinates Freshman Orientation BBQ and snacks.
  • Set up staff luncheons before Homecoming and Spring Fling
  • Work with local businesses to get special student offers
  • Semester One Finals week donut feed
  • Coordinate New Student Program with Admin/Guidance
  • Doing all you can to make Gunn a warm and friendly environment for staff and students

Special Events Commissioner

  • Plans traditional Gunn events (Spring Fling, Powderpuff, Fashion Show, etc.) and creates new ones
  • Organizes lunch and brunch games for Homecoming and during rest of year
  • Creates mixes for music on the quad
  • Must feel comfortable speaking in public and should be organized

Dance Commissioner

  • Plans dances by organizing themes, decorations, tickets, purchasing, DJ playlist, Security, photos, and getting people to come help and set up/clean up
  • parent volunteer recruitment
  • Chooses Prom location and takes care of publicity and logistics

School Board Representative

  • Attends School Board Meetings
  • Reviews Board Minutes
  • Reports to SEC on meetings
  • Organizes Fall and Spring student board dinners
  • Works on assigned committees

Class Presidents

  • Represent interest of their class in SEC
  • Organize homecoming competition for class: organize and lead class meetings, float building, and air bands
  • Manage class funds and organize fundraisers (candy grams, Stanford parking)
  • Recruit contestants for games throughout year
  • Carry out special class duties (frosh: shadowing, soph: graduation parking, juniors: directory/baccalaureate, seniors: senior awards night, grad night, senior gift)

Class Vice Presidents

  • Lead class council
  • Help president in all activities/responsibilities (see above)
  • Stand-in for presidents when necessary
  • Work closely with presidents to make sure they represent class well
