Curriculum Resources for Lesson Planning

The library has a small professional library which supports teachers assigning research projects, including the current CA Content Standards and Frameworks.

Use of the Library Lab

During this stage of the building process, the Library Lab is being used for computer classes, however the mobile lab can be reserved for use in the library with your classes. A laptop and projector may be checked out from library staff as well. Mobile lab reservations for classroom use are handled by the MacLab.

How to Prepare and Plan for a Library Visit with your Class

One - Two weeks Ahead:
Schedule your visit and talk to Kristi about the assignment: Big6 components, books and online resources to use, whether you would like a cart of books to be reserved, etc.  New: create a Google Custom Search to search only sites that you want your students to use. Post it on your InClass page, following these instructions. Here's an example of a custom search for information about countries which will search in these sites only: CIA World Fact Book, CountryReports.org, and Country Studies from the Library of Congress. Try it out.

A Day or Two Before:
Instructions are best given in the classroom just before coming to the library.  You may want to review these points:
* how to log on access the library web page
* requiring use of subscription online resources provided by the PAUSD and PACL
* the task to be completed by the end of the period
* requiring use of books and using the catalog to access them
You may want to require students to complete an evaluation worksheet for any “free” websites on the open web that they use for research.  Here are a couple of examples: Terman form, New Mexico State University Evaluation Criteria

Group Study Rooms

The group study rooms are being used as offices during this phase of the building program.  They are not available for group study.
