Counseling Update - April 8, 2015

Dear Gunn Community,
Here is this week's update from the Gunn Counseling Department.
Zero Period and G Period Prep (All Grades)
For next school year, Gunn will only be offering zero period for PE and the morning broadcast class. Many students took a zero period class this year to have a G prep so it wouldn't impact athletics and other afternoon activities.
Next year, the first priority for G prep goes to Gunn athletes who participate in sports that have afternoon games. All other requests will be reviewed by the counseling department.
College Notifications (12th Grade)
As of April 1, a majority of students have been notified of their acceptance status. The College and Career Center is a great resource for any questions your student might have.
Senior Grades  (12th Grade)
With the third quarter over, seniors are getting a vital checkpoint to see where they are academically as they enter the final stretch of their Gunn career. It is critical that students finish up academically with grades that are commensurate with how they have done in previous years. All colleges look closely at how students finish up and if there is a significant drop in grades, admissions may be rescinded. It is almost guaranteed that a grade of D or lower in a required class will result in a student not being allowed to attend the school for which they earned admission.
Upcoming Events
Not In Our Schools Week-April 13-17 (All Grades)
For the 13th year in a row, Gunn High School will be hosting "Not In Our Schools Week" (NIOS). Throughout this week, April 13-17, there will be a series of activities both inside and outside of the classroom to bring social awareness and acceptance with the theme of "We're All in This Together."
Thanks to the  efforts of many staff members and students over the years, NIOS has helped create the special culture of appreciating and celebrating our differences that exists on the Gunn campus. While this is the week we recognize NIOS, the reality is that NIOS exists each and every day at Gunn High School.
