Counseling Update - October 20, 2014

Dear Gunn Community,
Here is this week's update from the Gunn Counseling Department.
Support for Students (All Grades)
With the sad news of the passing of a former student of our school community this past Wednesday, the Gunn Counseling Department is offering social emotional support services for all students who may need support.
Working with Adolescent Counseling Services along with our district office, we are here to help the students.
If you have a student who needs support, do not hesitate to contact your counselor or me.
First Quarter Grades (All Grades)
First quarter grades are now on Infinite Campus and over the past weekend a copy of the grades were mailed home.
If you have any questions about your student's grades, please make sure to contact their teacher.
Unity Day October 23 (All Grades)
This Thursday, October 23, is Unity Day at Gunn. Unity Day is a nationally recognized day where communities come together—in schools, communities, and online—and send one large orange message of support, hope, and unity to continue to provide safe and supportive schools and communities.
The Gunn Not In Our School (NIOS) Committee will be providing orange buttons that each student will receive on Thursday and we encourage everyone to wear orange to show their support as we work together to foster an environment of unity on our campus.

Final Day to Drop a Class-November 14 (All Grades)
The final day to drop a class and not have it appear on the transcript is November 14. If a student is going to drop a class, the student must consult with the teacher and the instructional supervisor of that department.

College Visits  (11th and 12th Grades)
We are in full swing having colleges visiting Gunn and to check to see who is coming, please check your Naviance account. There are some great colleges coming and many have unique academic packages that are great for Gunn students.
To be able to attend one of the sessions, you'll need to sign up at least 24 hours in advance through Naviance and prearrange with your teacher that you will be missing class to attend.
Naviance Account (11th and 12th Grades)
While we're talking about Naviance, please check to make sure your Naviance account is up to date. If you're not receiving messages from Naviance, it's possible that the messages may have been inappropriately filed in the "junk" folder on your email. Be sure to add Naviance to your email's approved "whitelist.'
Former Students Speaking in the Acorn Lounge on Tuesdays (All Grades)
For the next two weeks on Tuesday's at lunch, the Gunn Library will be hosting speakers, including Gunn alums, in the Acorn Lounge who will be talking about their post high school experiences. This speaker series is open to all Gunn students and will help our current Gunn students learn from alums about life in college and in their early career years in the workplace.
