Counseling Update - October 27, 2014

Dear Gunn Community,
Here is this week's update from the Gunn Counseling Department.
Homecoming Week (All Grades)
This week is Homecoming Week, the most spirited week of the school year. There are a series of events culminated by the football game on Friday night at 7:00 PM and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday at 7:30 PM.
We invite the community to come to the football game to see the amazing halftime show as each class will display the float they been hard at work creating. Come on out and enjoy a great night of festivities.
Halloween on Friday (All Grades)
In addition to all the Homecoming Activities we have, this Friday is Halloween and one of the fun annual traditions the counseling department does each year is the passing out of treats on Halloween during brunch and lunch. This Friday, the tradition will continue as our counselors, some in costume, will be out and about.
Daylight Savings Time Ends Sunday Morning (All Grades)
A reminder that daylight savings time will end this Sunday (November 2) at 2:00 AM. Make sure to set your clocks back so your student doesn't come to school too early on Monday.
Final Day to Drop a Class-November 14 (All Grades)
The final day to drop a class and not have it appear on the transcript is November 14. If a student is going to drop a class, the student must consult with the teacher and the instructional supervisor of that department.
Support for Students (All Grades)
With the sad news of the passing of a former student of our school community, the Gunn Counseling Department is offering social emotional support services for all students who may need support.
Working with Adolescent Counseling Services along with our district office, we are here to help the students.
If you have a student who needs support, do not hesitate to contact your counselor or me.

Gunn Counseling is now on Twitter. You can get updates by following us on Twitter@Gunn Counseling.
Senior Conferences (12th Grade)
The Gunn Counselors are doing their senior conferences. In the sessions, the counselors will check in with the students, go over the college application process and also let them know about the services that are available in our expanded College and Career Center.
College Visits  (11th and 12th Grades)
We are in full swing having colleges visiting Gunn and to check to see who is coming, please check your Naviance account. There are some great colleges coming and many have unique academic packages that are great for Gunn students.
To be able to attend one of the sessions, you'll need to sign up at least 24 hours in advance through Naviance and prearrange with your teacher that you will be missing class to attend.
Naviance Account (11th and 12th Grades)
While we're talking about Naviance, please check to make sure your Naviance account is up to date. If you're not receiving messages from Naviance, it's possible that the messages may have been inappropriately filed in the "junk" folder on your email. Be sure to add Naviance to your email's approved "whitelist.'
Special Announcement for Students Applying to Georgetown or MIT (12th Grade)
All seniors who are applying to Georgetown University or MIT, must complete the paper copy of the Secondary School Report and Midyear Report forms. Gunn counselors will not be submitting these forms electronically.
Your counselor or registrar can supply you with a paper copy of the forms so you can complete your portion before you include them in your college packet.
