Online Awareness for Parents in the Digital Age October 1 7:00 PM
Student Assembly on Digital Citizenship on October 8 in B Period
As a parent, you remember when advanced communication technology was when your phone had  "call waiting" and "three way calling." As you know, times have changed and the way your student communicates with their friends has absolutely exploded from when you were in high school. Changes in social media happen at such a fast pace and social media sites such as Facebook are looked at as passe by many students as new sites gain popularity every week.
We at Gunn feel it is important for our school community to have the tools to navigate through this changing landscape and we're planning a couple of events for parents and students. To better help parents understand the digital age we now live in, Gunn will be hosting My Digital TAT2 with Gloria Moskowitz-Sweet on October 1 at 7:00-8:30 PM in the Gunn Library.
The evening event is recommended to anyone who would like to learn thoughtful ways to help engage your student in a conversation about responsible and ethical behaviors online and teach them how to be responsible and ethical on their online communications.
On October 8, all Gunn students will have a "Digital Citizenship" Assembly in their B period class. Teachers will lead a discussion of social media etiquette that is relevant for students living in today's social media world based on results from a survey students participated in last year.
Parent Information Night for 9th and 12th Graders on October 3 and 9th and 10th and 11th graders on October 9.
On October 3 the counseling department will host an information night for 9th graders (6:30 PM) and 12th graders (7:45 PM) in the Gunn Library. The counselors will go over important information that is pertinent for your child in regards to preparation for college and services the counseling department offers. There will be a similar night for 10th and 11th graders on October 9.
College Fair at Palo Alto High School on October 14 6:30-8:30 PM
The annual College Fair this year will be held at Palo Alto HIgh School on October 14. The evening starts at 6:30 PM and will have representatives from over 100 colleges.
